the theme for this printed textiles project was 'plantopia'. through extensive visual research i found myself developing a sub theme of british plants, and as i put my mood board together i realised that there was lot of tension between some more delicate and vibrant interpretations, which inspired my colour palette. contrasted with other imagery which was more whimsical and unsettling, encouraging me to include gothic and refined shapes and compositions.
most of my art has gothic and offbeat undertones, so i was happy that by the end of the project i was able to blend these styles uniquely and harmoniously within my development and final collection pieces.
this project taught me a lot about drawing, it helped me to understand that drawings isn't about skill, but perception and interpretation. my drawing style evolved very organically, i drew plants and flowers in person; which was very informative and furthered my spindly and expressionist style as I was working with tangible objects, and experiencing the texture and movement in person.
