'waste not, want not'
my theme for this knitted textiles project was inspired by the idiom 'waste not, want not', so i had to get creative when working around the limitations of sustainability in an art form i hadn't explored before.
i saved up plastic and collected various yarns, bands and beads from local charity shops to use. as a sub theme i based the colours, shapes and compositions of my pieces around the areas that are most effected by plastic pollution and unsustainable fashion and textile practices; like the natural world and the ocean. i portrayed this issue either by making use of unsustainable materials, like single use plastic, or i incorporated them to conveying how plastic pollution has done irreversible and devastating damage.
these pieces were all created using either hand knitting or a domestic single bed knit machine.
